Greeting card reproduced from a pencil and watercolour by Eric Ravilious. 145 x 125mm with off-white paper envelope. Published by Canns Down Press. Painted in August 1938, in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, 'Lifeboat' uses bold and bright colours and an inventive use of colour. "An important feature of Edwardian seaside cculture, bathing machines enabled people to enterand leave the water unobserved. As a boy Ravilious would have seen them on the beach at Eastbourne, but by the late 1930s, these eccentric tents were a rarity" (Russel, 2015 - 'Ravilious' - published on the occasion of the exhibition Ravilious at Dulwich Picture Gallery)
